In 1999, I was asked to help four young developers build a website development company. I joined as an equal partner, and within a year they asked me to assume the CEO position. I led the company through the 'bubble burst', becoming one of the few survivors in the region. The company grew to 24 employees and customers worldwide. I designed and created a product and marketing program to generate critical mass, and I attracted over $2 million in funding.
NOT A PENNY TO START WITH!
When I started with We-Create, we didn't have a penny to play with. I managed to motivate and direct my four partners and take them through some pretty difficult times. By maintaining open communication, identifying personal goals, collaborating on a vision, and taking mutual risks, we overcame incredible obstacles to achieve what most have failed to do with start-ups.....succeed!
NO INTERNET EXPERIENCE
Prior to joining We-Create, I didn't even know what a URL was. My competency didn't revolve around technology. least of all the Internet. My expertise revolved around people, adoption and business development. Which is the secret to my success.
It took me very little time to understand the technology and the market, and what a market it was (and is). I was the perfect person for the position. I could see the technology from the eyes of the target market, and working with people that grew up with the internet I had a much better perspective. I convinced my partners that this was the case and we never looked back.
